When You Can't See Through The Fog

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="159" caption="Image by BrendonPG via Flickr"]Foggy morning/Hagley Park[/caption]

I've got a million things to do today...and not enough time to get it all done.

It's very foggy this morning--like pea soup, foggy. There is sun on the other side of the fog. I see it peeking through in spots.

It reminds me of life.

Sometimes things can look "foggy".  I wonder how in the world everything is going to work out? It's difficult to see into the future. But, then the SON peeks through the fog...and things start to take shape. This is not to say that everything works out perfectly, at least not by my standards. At least not by what I know. I don't (can't) always see the big picture. I can only see what is right in front of my face.

That is where trust comes in.

Sometimes, that is all I have to give.

Trust.

And really, that is all I need.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
   and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will direct your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6  NIV

*****************

*beautiful sun through the fog

*another fresh, new week

*quiet, early morning

*reading the Father's Day cards that the kids gave

*a happy heart

*a cold glass of iced tea

*anticipation

*opportunity

*freshly cut hair, doesn't it always feel and look better?

***************

How are you blessed?

Saturdays Are For Lazy

Today, here in small town Ohio, we are experiencing a nice sunny day. It stormed last night and swept out the heat and humidity. It is a nice break from the stifling heat of last week. There is a lot I love about summer, but the excessive heat is not one of them!

I thought I'd share some views from my front porch for this post.

*Lonnie looking at me through the window screen. He's so funny, always  "checking things out".

*Shamus enjoying the shade.

*The road that runs in front of my house.

*The llama field directly across from my driveway.

*A country star, that hubby and I are going to paint.

*The mailbox, standing proudly...with a crooked door...the survivor of an Ohio snow plow.

************

Enjoy your lazy, hazy day of summer!

Giving Thanks In The Midst Of

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]Category F5 tornado (upgraded from initial est...[/caption]

I heard the rain and wind last night

Only semi-awake in the dark of the night

A fleeting thought of stormy weather

As I changed my sleeping position

I woke to the early morning news of more people hurt

more buildings demolished

more lives destroyed

more people gone...just gone

never to return

Those who have lost so much in the deadly winds

Why them? Why not me?

Is it right for me to give thanks on this Monday, when so many are hurting? Lost? Devastated?

I quietly sit at the table

and stare at my computer screen.

Images from the news seared into my thoughts

My heart aches.

*thankful that more people weren't hurt or injured

*for friends and neighbors who reach out their hands

*for those who come to help

*for the human spirit

*for not giving up

*for pressing on

*for trying one more time

*for surviving

*for God, who is still there

Some of us have not gone through the utter devastation of a tornado, but we have lost loved ones. Some of us have never huddled through the howling winds, but we have huddled in fear of losing everything from job loss. Some of us have never watched as our house was torn apart, but we understand fire, floods, or theft. We haven't stood in terror watching the storm approach, but we understand the terror of a deadly diagnosis.

Storms of life come in all shapes and sizes.

I am thankful that God loves us, that He cares for us through ALL of life's storms.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  Psalm 18:2 NIV

What are some things you are thankful for this Monday?

I Feel Just Right...

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]Candles spell out the traditional English birt...[/caption]

1968

A time of turbulence in the country.  Hippie peace lovers. Vietnam soldiers. Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated in Memphis. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Weird cults. Rebellion. Rosemary's Baby and Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? OJ was a college star at the University of Southern California. Arthur Ashe, Peggy Fleming, and Detroit vs. St. Louis in the World Series. Jackie Kennedy marries Aristotle Onassis. Elvis has a comeback. The Mod Squad. The Andy Griffith Show, and Laugh-In. Nixon elected. Apollo 8.

In Spring of that year a baby girl was born in a small county hospital in Maryland.

That little girl was me.

Forty-three years have come and gone since then.

A lot has happened.

A lot good. Some bad. Much laughter. Some tears. Things that were a little scary. Some things hysterically funny. So many memories.

I've had a good life. Not everyone can say that... I feel so blessed that I can.

I'm glad to be 43 today.

I don't feel too old...and I don't feel too young.

I feel just right.

A Quiet Evening At Home

There is so much to see

When I take the time to really look.

Father, help me to walk through life

with my eyes wide open.

Appreciating

Thanking

For all things great

and small.

Things That Make You Go Hmm....

It's another rainy and gray Tuesday. It seems as if this is the way the entire Spring will be. On that note I've decided to go through my pictures, and pull out the ones that make me giggle, amuse me, or are just plain silly. It always feels good to laugh, doesn't it?

So, I walked in the bedroom yesterday and this is what I saw.  I told my husband that we now have "his and hers" foot warmers.

The other day I looked out my kitchen window...and this is what I saw.  I guess Fed Ex and UPS have to meet on back country roads to talk to each other. They just want us to THINK that they are bitter, package delivering, rivals. Now the truth is out!

Joe is our senior dog. In dog years he is like, eighty-five. He has arthritis and takes glucosamine & chondroitin daily. He still knows how to be silly and have a good time.

This picture of  me, always makes me laugh. I call this my Nanook  of the North picture. We were in the process of building our house, it was the dead of winter, and I wore that hat everywhere. No kidding. I looked like a citizen of Siberia, Russia. The shades were because of snow glare, not because I was trying to be "Hollywood". Just sayin'.

This is a neighbor of ours. He was out for his morning jog.

Take Me Home...Country Roads

Saturdays are made for home...

A house is not a home unless it contains food and fire for the mind as well as the body.
Benjamin Franklin

Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country.
Margaret Thatcher
Decorate your home. It gives the illusion that your life is more interesting than it really is.
Charles M. Schulz
Home is the place we love best and grumble the most.
Billy Sunday

Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.
Robert Frost

I say, If everybody in this house lives where it's God first, friends and family second and you third, we won't ever have an argument.
Jeff Foxworthy
People who have good relationships at home are more effective in the marketplace.
Zig Ziglar

The fellow that owns his own home is always just coming out of a hardware store.
Kin Hubbard

Where thou art, that is home.
Emily Dickinson

Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.
Oliver Wendell Holmes

Lord Willing, And The Creek Don't Rise

April showers bring May flowers.....or in my case, THUNDERSTORMS bring flooding.

This morning I woke to high winds, thunder, and lightening. It has rained pretty much the entire day.

The farm land across the road is saturated. There is now a lake where a field used to be.

Such is springtime in rural Ohio.

Springtime is the best and worst of times.

Rain and mud

Storms and flood

Plants blooming, pollen sneezing

Grass growing, allergic wheezing

Farmers planting

Dogs panting

Flip flops to wear

Ponytail hair

Sunshine so bright

Until late at night.

Let's get into gear

'Cause Springtime is here!

New International Version (©1984)
Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; it is the LORD who makes the storm clouds. He gives showers of rain to men, and plants of the field to everyone.

The Road That Leads Home

[caption id="attachment_4689" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Home Driveway"][/caption]

I live down a country road.

There is not much traffic on the road. It is fairly quiet, most of the time.

After a short jaunt, or a long trip, it is always nice to see the road that leads to home.

Knowing I'm almost there...

This day I am reminded of another road that leads home.

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20 NIV

I am just a pilgrim on a journey.

On the road.

On my way home.

Move Over Montana...We've Got Big Sky Too!

[caption id="attachment_4507" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="The Barn And Pasture"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_4510" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Our House In The Background"][/caption]

Who says that only Montana is "Big Sky" country?  Would you look at that beautiful sky with the big puffy clouds!

Ohio has some pretty sky too. I want to lay on my back in the front yard.

I love living in the country.

I soak it all in.

Time slows down.

I feel blessed to be able to experience this.

Some times the best things in life,  are also the most simple.

Animal House

Pets make me smile. They are so goofy, I can't help but love 'em.

Ace and Junior--The Greeters. This is what I see when I look out the van window. "We are so glad you are home! Pet us."

[caption id="attachment_4478" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Nikki, My Stalker Kitty"][/caption]

Please ignore anything you might see under my daughter's bed. Nikki is guarding the dust bunnies. Nikki is my stalker kitty. She was taking a break from her stalking duties, under my daughter's bed. She is a brave cat.

[caption id="attachment_4479" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Joe, the 'fraidy cat"][/caption]

Joe is very sweet, but very skittish. He doesn't want any funny business going on. He's 13 so he's allowed to lay under the bed if he so chooses. When I'm old, if I choose to lay under my bed, then let me. Just sayin'.

[caption id="attachment_4480" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Shamus, the kitty"][/caption]

Shamus is the youngest of the "crew". He is either fearless or has no sense, we're still not sure. Please ignore Junior sniffing Shamus' backside. Animals do not understand social etiquette....especially while getting their pictures taken. Sigh.

[caption id="attachment_4481" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Shamus and Salem-- Outdoor porch guards"][/caption]

Salem is the queen. She is beautiful. She puts up with nothing. Don't mess with her. She has claws and is not afraid to use them.

[caption id="attachment_4484" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Lonnie, Terrier Extraordinaire"][/caption]

Lonnie is the newest member of the family. My son got him from the local humane society. He is the sweetest guy, I just love him...even though I've nicknamed him "The Furinator."

[caption id="attachment_4482" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Jazz"][/caption]

This is a picture I took of Jazz during our last snow. I took the picture through the living room window...where it was warm.

[caption id="attachment_4483" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Llama Love"][/caption]

These are not my llamas, but I love them anyway. The neighbor across the road owns the llamas. I just get to watch them. I can't wait for all the babies that will appear this Spring!
