Back In The Day

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]Radio cassette player[/caption]

I'm in my early 40's. Not old. Yet. Although, a lot has happened since I was a kid.

1. I remember having one phone--IN THE WHOLE HOUSE.

2. It was rotary. It hung on the kitchen wall.

3. And NO answering machine.

4. If someone called and we weren't home...oh, well.

5. We didn't have a microwave.

6. We warmed up stuff on the stove, or in the oven.

7. My Mammaw was the first person I knew to get a microwave.

8. It was HUGE.

9. She tried it out by putting a hot dog in to cook---FOR FIVE MINUTES.

10. It exploded.

11. Opps.

12. There were no such things as personal computers when I was a kid.

13. I had to use the phone if I wanted to talk with someone.

14. Or go to the library for information (and the information wasn't on a Kindle or Ipad)

15. Imagine that.

16. MP3 players...what were those?

17. I had a cassette player.

18. Cassettes were what music came on.

19. And one had to worry about having their tapes eaten up by the machine.

20. In my younger days, records were becoming obsolete.

21. Didn't have VCR's, much less DVD players, no such thing as Blu-Ray.

22. If we wanted to watch a movie, my family went to a theater.

23. We watched the three main channels and a few other fuzzy ones on the TV, if we were lucky.

24. People had antennas on their houses in the 70's.

25. Cable didn't come until much, much later.

26. My kids have absolutely no idea what life is like without the "modern conveniences".

27.  Sometimes this worries me.

28. Because they don't (can't?)  really appreciate what they have.

29. Who knows what it will be like when they are adults?

30. Maybe they'll all be living in a virtual world by then.

Cartoon Saturdays

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]Bugs Bunny's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[/caption]

My son asked me the other day about a cartoon. I don't know where he had seen it, but it was a cartoon from the 70's. It got me to thinking...

1. I remember getting up early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons.

2. That was when cartoons only used to come on, on Saturday mornings.

3. That was before Cartoon Network, or Nickelodeon.

4. Remember... Hong Kong Phooey

5. Super Buggy

6. Jabber Jaws

7. Classic Scooby Doo

8. Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Sylvester and Tweety?

9. After I took that little trip down memory lane

10. I also remembered watching The Kroft Super Show on Saturday mornings.

11. So, through the power of  Youtube, I found some old clips.

12. I laughed so hard that I got the hiccups.

13. It was so 70's...

14. In a scary, psychedelic sort of a way.

15. The "adults" on the show were singing dressed in leotards, and covered with glitter.

16. Weird.

17. Remember H.R. Puff an Stuff?

18. Witchie Poo always scared me.

19. Sigmund The Sea Monster?

20. The 70's shows were freaky...

21. I managed to survive that era.

22. When my son was young (in the late 90's)

23. We used to watch Johnny Bravo and Two Angry Beavers.

24. Those were funny.

25. My oldest son showed me Roadents (spelled that way) on Hulu.  It's about two guinea pigs named Pee Pee and Buttercup that drive a 1983 Winnebago on road trips.

26. I can't remember the names of the creators.

27. But, they have my sense of humor...and excellent taste, if I do say so myself.

28. Hilarious stuff.

29. Being a child in the 70's wasn't so bad.

30. It gave me really great taste in cartoons.

31. Now, my big cartoon fun is with Hoops and Yoyo

32. I stand at the card aisle at Walmart and play all the sound cards.

33. Hoops and Yoyo are my favorite.

34. They always make me smile.

35. So, if you ever buy me a card, make sure it has Hoops and Yoyo on it. It gets me every time!

I've Got Nothing

JLH Ghost Whisperer Promo Updated

I have been sitting here for 2 hours and can't seem to blog about anything good.

1. I started to blog about stuff.

2. But then I thought it was boring.

3. So I blogged about something else.

4. And thought that sounded stupid.

5. So then I watched a little Ghost Whisperer.

6. Jennifer Love-Hewitt never ages.

7. So not fair.

8. The weather is chilly and gray today.....

9. Looks like rain.

10. This should be a good, cozy blogging day.

11. But no such luck.

12. I need to go make brownies for a get together I'm going to tonight.

13. I'm also hungry so I think it wouldn't hurt to eat a sandwich for lunch.

14. This has been my first blog totally about

15. Nothing in particular.

P.S. Maybe my mojo will be back tomorrow.

Totally Addicted To House Hunters

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Image by Stuck in Customs via Flickr"]La Ville de Paris Gets Ready for Night[/caption]

I have been a big fan of HGTV for forever. I am especially in love with the House Hunters Show.  I love looking at other people's houses. I also love to see what real estate is going for in various parts of the country. (or internationally, if I watch International House Hunters...which I do.)

1. I love looking at how other people live.

2. Some people have such good taste.

3. Other people, not so much.

4. Vivid, loud colors and three different types of animal print?

5. Um...whatever floats one's boat, I guess.

6. Paint can always be changed. Thank goodness.

7. Sometimes the buyers are real pieces of work.

8. And I feel sorry for the agent.

9. She didn't build the house. Sorry the bedrooms are smaller than you'd like.

10. She has to stay in your price range.

11. So deal with it.

12. My serious question is this----

13. What do some of these people do for a living?

14. I was watching International HH the other day.

15. The couple was getting a vacation home in some Central American country...

16. The house was around 800,000 dollars.

17. The guy said, "We can probably swing that."

18. Huh?!

19. For a vacation home?!

20. I suppose I live in the real world.

21. And they are from Mars.

22. I know there are people out there that make about a bazillion, quadrillion dollars a year.

23. I just don't know any of them personally.

24. Today, a young couple (from the USA) were recently married and living in Paris.

25. They wanted to buy a nice apartment in the city.

26. Neither of them looked over, maybe 32?

27. They both worked in the fashion industry.

28. They ended up buying an apartment for $890,000. (U.S dollars)

29. Then they put another $165,000 into renovations.

30. I so must be living in another galaxy.

31. Does anybody else think that is insane, or is it just me?

32. I still like to watch.

33. Even if I think some of the people are kinda nuts...and they have to be in debt up to their eyeballs.

34. I can live vicariously.

35. And then be completely content with my lovely home in the country.

36. Because you know...

37. Home is where you make it.

38. It has a lot more to do with the people, than square footage.

39. And that...

40. Is the most valuable lesson of all.

Tuck Those Buns!

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Image by scottnj via Flickr"]The Hunchback of Notre Dame[/caption]

Into the fourth day of  T-Tapp Boot Camp. I've managed to survive....which is always a good thing. No more laying on the floor, looking like a dying fish.

1. Knees bent, shoulders back, tuck those buns!

2. Yes, you can!

3. I am hearing that mantra in my head.

4. I am not dead yet.

5. This always makes me happy:)

6. Although, after the workouts I feel sort of dead.

7. That's just an expression.

8. I don't REALLY know what dead feels like.

9. Thank goodness.

10. Eventually, I will feel better.

11. Maybe even energized.

12. This workout is teaching me a lot about proper alignment.

13. I don't want to grow old and look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

14. Not a good look for me.

15. So, I'm taking action.

16. While I am still fairly young.

17. And vibrant.

18. Except when I don't get enough sleep.

19. Then not so much.

20. By Christmas I might look like an entirely different person.

21. People might not recognize me...

22. With newly firmed muscles and excellent posture.

23. That is my Christmas gift to myself.

24. Merry Christmas to me.

25. Take that, skinny jeans!!!!!

Thank You

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Image by doug.siefken via Flickr"]Happy Saint (St.) Valentine's Day Heart ? - MC...[/caption]

I just wanted to thank all my readers for taking the time to read my blog each day. I love having readers that get my quirky sense of humor, my serious thought provoking blogs, and my occasional political banter. Thank you for making blogging fun for me!

Ode To My Peeps

Thank you, readers for reading each day.

For "listening" to what I have to say.

Thank you for taking your time

To see what's up, and reading my rhyme.

I enjoy your blogs too

Hearing of all you are going  to do...

Being blog buddies is lots of fun

This is the end...now I'm done.

(I really can write poetry....but, it is early and my brain has not yet kicked into full gear. Please forgive me:)

Gray, Gray Go Away

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]Hair coloring[/caption]

Yes. I color my hair. I have no trouble admitting that. I think that there are a lot of women that color, high light, or color wash their hair. Whether they admit it or not.

It's hard when you are blond as a child, and then your hair "turns on you" as you get older. I didn't want hair that was sort of light brown, sort of dark blond. So, I helped my hair out, with the blond...and have never looked back. I have left instructions with my children. If I should pass away, and there is an open casket (which should happen, in lieu of some catastrophic accident) they better make sure that my hair is colored! If not, I promised I would come back to haunt them. Gray hairs and all. I think I sufficiently scared them.

1. I do not like seeing gray hairs.

2. I blame my kids for those.

3. I know it is time to color when those gray hairs start popping out.

4. I have a deep, philosophical question...

5. Is a gray hair still a gray hair if it is covered with blond, and no one knows the difference?

6. I used to color my own hair. By myself. In secret.

7. It's cheaper that way.

8. I still sort of color my own hair.

9. The past few times I've asked my hubby for some help.

10. It's easier than trying to do the back of my head by myself.

11. It's hard to see the back of one's head.

12. Go figure.

13. I'm assuming he is doing a good job of it.

14. Because no one has said anything to me

15. Like, "what's with the freaky hair?" or

16. "Are stripes a new look for you?"

17. I must appear normal.

18. Whatever THAT means.

19. 'Cause those that know me

20. Can really find the humor in that.
