Take Me Home Country Roads...

There is just something about those round bales of hay...

I love lavender. I'd plant my entire flower garden with it, if I could.

Country in the kitchen...

The morning is starting out quietly, with the exception of the wind chimes blowing in the breeze.

A peaceful morning bodes well for the rest of the day.

Summer Begins At Home...

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer...

I love wind chimes. I like to hang them on the deck, of course we live in a wind tunnel...so my poor wind chimes take a beating.

Summertime is much more laid back...peace and serenity is sitting on the front porch on a quiet summer evening.

My husband put our new flag up yesterday... Looking at the crisp red, white, and blue flapping in the breeze made me so happy.

This is where you will find me in the evenings. My favorite spot. I thought the red pillow just made the sitting area "pop".

Yesterday, my son pulled out a birthday present from a couple of years ago. Now we have a big yard (since we moved) and he practiced shooting off his rocket last night.

"America, America, God shed His grace on thee."

I got these windsocks on sale at Wmart. I thought they looked festive, but they also remind me of the beach. Perfect for summer.

What makes your house feel like home? Do you have a favorite spot?

Saturday Morning In My Kitchen

Candles and warm light in my favorite nook.

Hmmm...What to fix? The possibilities...

.

Writing down daily thanksgiving on the family Eucharisteo board.

It's all grace. Every bit of it.

Even this...

This is one of the first things I see....Lonnie refused to eat his nutritional bits.AGAIN.

Being Sick Stinks

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Image by Kevin H. via Flickr"]Chicken Noodle Soup[/caption]

Yesterday I was really, really sick.  Today I am just really sick. (There is a difference...the extra really from yesterday means I felt like I was on my death bed.)

10 REASONS I HATE BEING SICK

1. My stomach is making all sorts of odd noises that I have a feeling is not going to bode well for me.

2. I had to get up to use the bathroom yesterday afternoon, from where I was laying in the throes of death, on the couch. I didn't have the energy to move. Alas, I made myself get up...because I didn't like the alternative.

3. I didn't feel like eating. The thought of food gagged me, yet if I didn't eat something my blood sugar would drop and I'd be in serious trouble. Yuck. Why is it I only feel this way when I'm sick? How come I can't have an aversion to food for the rest of the time? It would seriously help with the dieting. Sigh.

4. I was freezing cold. I had on sweat pants, a shirt, a sweatshirt, thick socks and a scarf around my neck. I also had on 3 blankets and I was still cold. How annoying is that? Normally, I tend towards being hot. I had a brief flash of what I was going to be going through in another 10 years. Cold and hot flashes because my body thermostat is going to be all wonky. Ugh. I attempted to wipe that thought from my mind.

5. I couldn't get my pillows fluffed correctly and it was driving me nuts. For the love of pete! Why can't the pillows cooperate with me? Can't they see I'm dying?!

6. I glanced at myself yesterday in the mirror. Scary does not describe it. I could have been an extra on the movie Dawn Of The Dead. Actually, the zombies would have looked better than I did. I wish I was kidding.

7. I watched a marathon of Without A Trace on ION yesterday afternoon and evening. Because I wasn't moving from the couch. Ever. Well, unless I had to use the bathroom. (refer back to #2)

8. I was so tired. Like dead tired. (refer back to #6)

9. I was achy. I did ask my family members to rub my shoulders. Which they did. Because they love me...and they didn't want to hear me whine.

10. Being sick stinks...but, I think I am on the mend. I hope. Though I wouldn't mind laying on the couch this afternoon watching TV show marathons.

Moving Furniture And Other Big Stuff

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]sofa club[/caption]

I am a recovering furniture mover. I used to constantly change my furniture set up. I'd get tired of the couch being in front of the window, so I'd move it to the wall. The chair didn't look good in the corner anymore so I'd set it over next to the end table. It was an illness of which I could find no cure.

My late husband drove a truck. The hours for a truck driver are bizarre...sometimes he would get in, in the middle of the night. I'd be awakened by a bang and a thump and a few mutterings under his breath. Opps. I guess he didn't see that I moved the recliner over to the other side of the room. He never knew what to expect from me.You'd think he would have learned to flip on the lights to check out the layout of the room before preceding into the house.

The past several years I haven't had the opportunity to move furniture on a near monthly basis. Before we moved, the old house was stacked with boxes. No space to move anything. Once we moved to the new house and unpacked everything, rearranging furniture seemed a chore. The couch has stayed in the same place for the past year and a half. It makes me nervous. Sigh.I've worked more on accessories. Easier to move. Less back strain.

Last night I got a little twitch while looking at my library/office. I'm thinking that I want to move the sofa and desk and scoot a few book shelves around. This could be dangerous. It is driving me nutty. I'm not going to be satisfied until I do something. Anything. I'm becoming desperate.

Why must furniture moving be my addiction? I'm going to end up with a hernia and sore muscles.

Is there such a thing as furniture intervention?

The Perfect Moment

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Image via Wikipedia"]The Beautiful Life[/caption]

Some days are better than others. Sometimes I feel as if life is flying by and I'm left standing there in the middle of the living room--wondering what in the world just happened. I'm sure you've all had days like that. Right?

On some evenings when everything is going as planned it is a beautiful moment to me. A lull in the storms of life. I have a wonderful dinner in the oven, the snow is falling gently outside, the light from the candles I keep in my front windows spills out onto the snowy ground, the kids are quietly working, my husband and I share a joke, I have everything checked off of my to do list for the day, I finally have time to just sit back and relax.....a beautiful moment in time....when everything is perfect.

If you are anything like me, you love those moments. They might be few and far between, but when they happen...well...they are just beautiful.

Day 6 of Confinement

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240" caption="Image by cindy47452 via Flickr"]Abandoned Mailbox[/caption]

Now we have some serious wind to add to the snow that we have piled up around here.  When I say "serious" wind, I mean it! The wind in Logan County is vicious. Of course, the fact that our house is setting in the middle of a field with no windbreaks (at all) does not help matters. The  wind makes it feel a lot colder and also makes it impossible to keep any sort of respectable hairstyle. I have given up on that front. A hair clip is now my friend. Either that or have my tresses resemble something a rat made a nest in. (Don't you love that visual?) The snowing and blowing going on around here makes my front yard look like a snow globe that has been shook one too many times.

I'm sitting at the kitchen counter. I see the forlorn mailbox at the end of our driveway. The mailbox door limply hanging open. Our mailbox filled full of snow. What a sad looking mailbox. There is some comfort in the fact that our neighbor's mailbox looks worse than ours does. It is resembling the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I'm sure the mail lady just loves winter mailboxes. Who knew all the weird angles and bent doors that one mailbox could display?

This afternoon I will be baking some brownies. Cold, snowy days are made for baking. With the weather here lately, I will weigh 900 lbs. before we see the spring thaw. Hey, and I have plenty of milk to go with those brownies. I'm just sayin'.
